I am firmly convinced that our economy is going through a purge. Only the strong will survive, just as with all evolutionary processes. Those who canapos;t adjust will be left behind. Those who do adjust, or who did not allow the economic processes that are occurring in our country grab hold of them, will be in the best position going forward.
These will be hard lessons for lots of people to learn. What you need vs. What you want are actually really definite lines you should be able to navigate. Unfortunately, credit card companies, car dealers, mortgage lenders, and other greedy businesses convinced an awful lot of people that what they only wanted was really what they needed, and gave them plenty of ways to buy it, at great cost.
The people who bought into that are the ones paying the highest price now. They will blame the banks, car dealers, and mortgage lenders, but this is on the buyers ultimately. The marketing was powerful, thereapos;s no doubt about that, but these buyers had a choice when they signed those loan papers. They didnapos;t look closely enough at what they could truly afford, and what the long-term consequences were. They are all paying for that now.
I am glad that I am not one of them. I donapos;t owe anyone anything, and donapos;t ever intend to either. I donapos;t need to ever turn my "wants" into "needs" to feed someone elseapos;s greed. If I canapos;t pay cash, then I donapos;t need it as bad as I think I do. And thereapos;s a whole lot of things Iapos;ve figured out I donapos;t "need" as much as I thought.
Those that are buried in their debt will struggle hard, maybe unsuccessfully, in the coming months. But hopefully, they will learn along the way, and never get themselves in this position ever again.
